The Mantis DC is a musical group comprising of Dempsey Hamilton on drums and percussion, David Barker on treble string instruments, Doug Kallmeyer on bass string instruments, and joined by Monica Stroik on visual projections, art and video production.. With an improvisational approach to musical arrangements and real time video manipulations, the group has drawn comparisons to Mogwai, Maseradi, Explosions in the Sky, and Sleep.
The debut, self- titled release consists of 6 pieces recorded to analog tape and mastered for high quality, 45 rpm vinyl by Mark Reiter, with additional recording by Mike Baena.
Each instrumentalist equally supports and takes lead roles in the arrangements, while consistently maintaining a playful energy that propels the music forward. The six pieces presented explore a variety of feel, from heavy riffs and terse percussive syncopations to open dynamic explorations. The Mantis DC takes full advantage of the space and impact possible in the power trio format.
For live performances and video production, the group is joined by multimedia artist Monica Stroik who provides stunning artwork and exciting visual projections, taking advantage of technology to join the group in their approach to arrangement and improvisation.
Official release date for The Mantis DC is October 23rd, and will be available as limited edition, 45 rpm vinyl (heavyweight, black, with covers hand- screened and numbered by the band), digital download and streaming
